Whether you want to start small to help supplement your energy cost or go big enough to support all your power consumption, with todays’ technology and competitive cost there’s no excuses not to get started.
Think solar energy is for remote areas only?
Q: Why would I spend my money on solar when I’ve already have power from the grid?
A: An investment in grid-tie solar panel system is an investment on your property, an investment towards power independence. Why rent your electricity, when you can own your electricity!
Q: Why would I not just go completely off-grid?
A: The major cost of off-grid installations is power storage (i.e. batteries), in order to store enough power to maintain an operating home during evening this can be quite substantial.
Q: Who benefits from solar grid-tie, myself or my electricity provider?
A: Both! As an energy sharing relationship, solar energy that a `home’ grid-tie system generates during the day is redirected to supply retail consumption within the city core. This power generated is used to offset the cost of our consumption in the evening when a residential home becomes active.
What exactly is a grid-tied solar install?
The power you consume in your home through the outlet on the wall is Alternating Current (AC).
The power that is generated from the solar panels Direct Current (DC).
In order to be connected to the grid to share in the mutual benefits, the AC signal from the inverter must match and be harmonious with the existing AC transmission on the grid.
This is the job of the PV Controller or “inverter”, to convert the DC from your solar panels into useable AC current. This power is then fed into the grid. Loads from your house may consume most of this power, reducing the amount you need to purchase from the utility. If there is surplus, the power company purchases it from you.
The system will not power your house if there is a black-out however; for safety and cost-savings, it requires the grid connection in order to operate.
What sizes are available and what do I need?
“The GT-Solar 1.0 to 2.0” is the perfect Grid-Tie package for those who are just starting their venture into solar power solutions. These 1kW & 2kW systems are affordable yet effective, this package will help take a little off the electricity bill and is a great start. Easily expandable and versatile for all types of installations.
“The GT-Solar 3.0 & 4.0”, this 3kW & 4kW systems are more aggressive first steps, with a goal of seeing a drop in your energy bill. Still quite affordable, these systems will sustain your lighting and entertainment loads. A strict power conservative person will see a significant utility savings on these systems alone.
“The GT-Solar 5.0 & 6.0” is the perfect power solution for those who need to take control of their energy consumption and quite possibly begin to see a payback on your electricity bill. In power terms, the 5kW & 6kW system is capable of powering everything except resistive loads (ovens, clothes dryer, baseboard heaters etc).
Another great thing about grid-tie systems is that they are easily expandable upon each other. When upsizing your system, the newer installation is a compliment to the existing installation. So that initial investment in your solar start will never be lost or wasted
